On the way, her story becomes irrevocably intertwined with the lives of those living in this far off land. Hazelnut Bastille tells the story of a young woman who travels to a foreign shore on the outskirts of her world, in order to seek out the promised gifts of mythological ancients, in hopes of retrieving something which was lost to her. We seek to emulate this period in most ways, from graphic presentation, to audio production, to general level design philosophy. Hazelnut Bastille, for PC, Mac, and Linux, and now Nintendo Switch, is a lush, topdown metroidvania in a 16bit JRPG style, which seeks to continue the great lineage of superior design from the mid 90's- the moment in time when mainstream 2D titles reached arguably their greatest level of refinement, in titles such as Super Metroid and Link to the Past. The timescale for this release will either be simultaneous with our PC / Mac / Linux release, or following some months after, as funding and development time ultimately allows, but we would very much like to see a release across all four of our starter platforms if it proves possible! I think ScreenSplitter's got the right idea. I'm personally expecting a 2d installment before whatever successor BotW gets. Absolutely buying on Switch if it comes there.Īnd as far as official Zeldas go. Knew enough not to be confused, but my playstyle wasn't streamlined enough to steamroll everything. That said, I've played the demo three times now and found that my second run was my favorite. Some of the interactive elements blend a little too much with stage props (specifically the energy sources that zap you), and using the ability you get in the dungeon without hurting yourself occasionally is virtually impossible (again offset by generous health refills). Devs seem pretty trustworthy and communicative, so I don't really have any doubts in their projected timeline (game's not coming this year).Īs far as criticisms (who knows, perhaps these have been changed by now, demo is months old already), I'd say that the lack of enemy telegraphing for movement seems a little cheap sometimes, but is offset by the generous heart refills you get and the variety of options you have of dealing with them. Art is gorgeous, music (though there is not much available yet) is phenomenal (the Chrono Trigger-esque drumroll in the title theme is super nostalgic), and gameplay is smooth. I've since spent a good deal of time looking at Aloft Studio's twitter timeline and reddit posts, and I am in love with what I've seen/heard/read/played. Controls took some getting used to (rebinding recommended), but the controls are intended for controllers more than keyboard, so that shouldn't be a problem when this is eventually released. and this game quickly shot near the top of my most anticipated games. I downloaded it in the middle of last week sometime.
